Integrated renewable projects - combining wind, solar, hydrogen, ammonia and related infrastructure - are complex by design. Each project demands months of engineering studies across multiple disciplines, testing combinations of technologies, capacities, layouts, and financial scenarios.


Because of the sheer number of possible concepts, only a handful can normally be evaluated in detail. This not only slows decision-making but also risks bias: known or “safe” solutions are studied, while potentially better combinations remain unexplored.


The result: months of effort, limited scope, and less confidence in whether the selected concept is truly optimal.

Solution

Together with a global EPC company, we developed an AI-assisted screening tool that transforms the early-phase design process.


Instead of manually evaluating a few concepts, the tool systematically explores the full option space - all possible combinations of wind, solar, green hydrogen, ammonia, and offloading facilities. It fetches equipment and cost data directly from client databases, applies engineering and sizing logic, and evaluates concepts across technical, economic, and sustainability metrics.


Users can test scenarios, apply assurance workflows, and explore trade-offs transparently — from cost, NPV, and carbon footprint to schedule and risk. The output is a shortlist of promising designs, ready for deeper engineering study.
